Labour is in town..
This past week the Labour party have been holding their annual conference in the centre of Manchester. The security was immense, in the week leading up to it police had locked down a huge area around the conference centre and there were thousands of them on patrol around the site.
We had a close encounter with the Gordon Brown when driving to work, we were stopped in the road as a swarm of police on bikes and cars and a huge entourage passed us by. It turned out that he was only moving hotels, but the huge security surrounding his every move started to make me wonder just how much money was spent hosting the event. A couple of times I'd be boarding the tram just a few feet from the hotel hosting the MPs and it was clear that everyone's attention was on the rooftops! People were openly talking about where marksmen might be positioned and there was a general buzz as throngs of MPs moved around the area.
All in all it made for an interesting week!

Uni looms…
In a couple of weeks I'll be back at uni! The summer has flown by, I'll be kind of sad to leave Manchester and my life here behind, it's still hard to uproot every few months but I suppose it will get easier with time. This year I'll be on placement in some of the areas around Bristol which is something to look forwards to. Last year I was very much stuck in a bubble as I had no reason or means to leave the centre of Bristol so I didn't get to explore a great deal...
Today feels like my first day off in forever, when in reality it has only been 5 days. The shop is getting busier as all the students start to pour in looking for their coursebooks, but with that comes the odd rude customer.. we had a couple last week, it frustrates me when people ask me something only to talk over/ignore/argue with my response. It doesn't take a lot to be polite or even friendly to staff in retail and in my own experience it always gets you a lot further!
Willow and Zanda had their first trip to the vets (since we have had them) last week. We had them in the same carrier which I think was a bit more comforting for them. As the days go by it becomes clearer and clearer how much they love one another.. If Zanda wanders out of the back garden Willow will sit at the back door crying until she comes back. They have also had a few more run ins with the neighbour's cat - so far there have been no real injuries but it is amazing watching the change in Willow's character when she feels threatened... she goes from being her usual cuddly self to being a real boxer. I keep meaning to take a photograph of the two of them, as soon as I remember I will post it on here.
